PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING WORKSHOPS
Worldwide, engineering education is facing challenges such as sustainability and innovation encompassing automatization. There is a need for developing engineering education accordingly and for educating more innovative graduates with a suitable set of skills and competences. Problem and project based learning (PBL) has become one of the answers to these challenges together with the application of more active learning methodologies. The PBL models are practiced in different ways ranging from shorter projects with well-defined problems to more complex projects with ill-structured problems. For the different models, differences occur in terms of the degree of student involvement, the identification of the problem, the role of the teacher, the organization of the learning process, and the assessment.
These three workshops provide an overview of the basics of some aspects of PBL theory and practice, namely curriculum management, facilitation skills and PBL models and practices. The workshops take a PBL approach by providing knowledge and exemplary hands-on activities delivered, and facilitated by a PBL expert.
In overall, the participants are expected to:
1.Understand active learning methodologies, in particular problem- and project based learning different practices and models (LO1)
2.>Understand curriculum design and management (LO2)
3.Understand and experience PBL as a learning process and development of PBL skills, including facilitation skills (LO3)
